Skype for Business (Formerly Lync)
Skype for Business is an instant messaging and collaboration solution with the ability to text chat, audio call and video conference between your team. You can even share your computer's display with others to people internal and external to your business.
Instant message within your team: Skype for Business allows you to keep quick conversations out of your email inbox. You can see who is online, who is busy and who is away. As well as one-to-one chats, you can invite many members into a conversation and get speedy resolutions without having to interrupt your daily work with phone calls. Skype for Business reduces interruptions and keep your team in touch no matter where they are or what device they are using.
Present to internal and external people: You can create presentations both for people within your team and for external guests as well. By displaying your screen to others, you can show them PowerPoint presentations or anything running on your PC. You can ask questions, draw using a digital whiteboard, share files and meeting notes. These presentations can be used for training sessions for you team, sales presentations to customers or chargeable training sessions you bill to your customers. Invite over 200 people to attend your presentation!
Presence: Skype For Business functionality allows you to see who in your company is currently at their desk, who is away and who is busy. This lets you know who is most likely to respond to a quick message and who is busy or out of the office. Skype for Business even reads your Outlook calendar and changes your status to 'Busy' when you're in meetings automatically.
Share your screen with colleagues: The screen sharing functionality within Skype for Business allows you to share your computer screen with a colleague. You can quickly connect and collaborate while working on a documents or troubleshoot a problem with having to worry about taking screenshots or trying to explain over the phone. You simply show the other person your screen! The other party can also request control of your keyboard and mouse and you can truly work together.
Skype for Business Apps for Mobiles and Tablets: Skype for Business can be installed on Windows and Apple Mac computers as well as Android, Apple and Windows Phone smartphones. This allows you to keep in contact while out and about to exchange instant messages, audio calls (over data), video calls and participate in conferences while out of the office.
Keep in contact while abroad: While travelling you can use a local Internet connection (eg: Hotel WiFi) to participate in real time conversations with your colleagues even if they are in another country. Instant message, video call and attend meetings wherever you are.
Integration with Office 365 and Microsoft Office programs: Many Skype for Business features integrate well with other Office 365 products, creating a fluid collaborative environment for your team. In Microsoft Outlook, when using Exchange email, if a colleague sent you an email, you'll see a green dot next to their name indicating they are online - meaning you can chat about that email instead sending emails back and forth. If you see a red dot you'll know they are busy and an email response is probably better. Using Sharepoint, you can see the name of the person who uploaded each document to a folder, and whether they are available for a Skype chat to talk about that document (eg: you might have a question about a price in a spreadsheet on SharePoint or you might want to provide feedback about a Word document on SharePoint). With Skype for Business Presence connected to your Outlook calendar will notify you who is in the office, on annual leave or in an appointment simply by typing their name.
