Make your phone ring longer before diverting to your MessageBank
On the mobile phone dial the following code and then press the DIAL or CALL key:

* * 6 1 * 1 0 1 * * TIME #

Replace the word TIME with the number 15 or 20 or 25 or 30. These numbers represent the number of seconds it takes before your phone diverts to MessageBank. The bigger the number, the longer your phone will ring!
Divert calls from your mobile phone to another number

There are 3 methods to divert calls from your mobile phone to another number:

Method 1) Use the phones menu to set the number you want your calls diverted to. You also use this to cancel the divert or re-divert back to your MessageBank number. (This is usually under the Settings menu in the Phone or Calls or Network option)

Method 2) You can call Telstra Mobile customer service on 125 111 and ask an operator to set the diversion for you on the network.

Method 3) Depending on when you want your mobile to divert, you dial a special code into your mobile phone depending on when you want the diversion to take place. Use the following special numbers and dial them from your mobile phone to set that particular diversion:

To turn on your diversion

Divert all calls - Dial: * * 2 1 * 1 0 1 #

When you are on another call - Dial: * * 6 7 * 1 0 1 #

When you don't answer your phone in time - Dial: * * 6 1 * 1 0 1 #

When your mobile is off or out of coverage - Dial: * * 6 2 * 1 0 1 #

To cancel your diversion

Divert all calls - Dial: # # 2 1 #

When you are on another call - Dial: # # 6 7 #

When you don't answer your phone in time - Dial: # # 6 1 #

When your mobile is off or out of coverage - Dial: # # 6 2 #

Important: Remember, if you use MessageBank, after you have cancelled all your diversions you will need to set up a diversion to 101 so calls get diverted to your MessageBank when your phone is off or out of coverage, you don't answer your phone in time, or when you are on another call.

Check your MessageBank voicemail from a phone other than your mobile

This tip is perfect for when you leave your mobile at home, or if your battery is flat! Simply call your own mobile number, and when you hear your own personal MessageBank greeting press the # key on the keypad. Enter your MessageBank PIN code and you will begin to hear your messages!

To set or change your MessageBank PIN, call 101 from your mobile phone and press 3 to enter the Mailbox Setup section. Press 3 again for PIN setup, enter your new PIN and then press #. Knowing your PIN will save you when you need to remotely check your messages!

How to check the serial number (IMEI number) of your handset

Dial the following number to make your handset display its serial number, commonly known as the IMEI number. Record this number so you can contact Telstra and block the phone from being used if it has been stolen. Simply dial the following number into your mobile phone *# 0 6 # (or you can check under the battery and look for the number next to IMEI)

How to check your MessageBank messages while travelling overseas

Note: Using your mobile phone in any way overseas can be quite costly. Please check International Roaming rates by calling 125 109 before you travel. Also call this same number to check that 'MessageBank Roaming' is turned on.

When you receive a voicemail, MessageBank will send you a text message with instructions on what to do... otherwise on your mobile press # 1 0 1 # and then dial - you will shortly receive a phone call from your MessageBank service which will playback the message. (not available with PrePaid services)

Make your number private when making a call

A private number is hidden on the screen of the person you are calling.

On a call by call basis, you can make your number private. Simply add the following number before the actual number you are going to call:

#31#

Eg: if you were going to call 52444222, you would actually dial #31#52444222

SMS not working? Check your Message Centre number is correct

If you are not able to send SMS messages, you may have accidentally changed the "SMS Message Centre Number" in your phone. This is typically found in your mobile's SMS Text Message settings area. The correct Message Centre number is:

+61418706700

Mobile phone playing up? To fix almost all problems read this tip!

As mobile phones become more and more advanced, they become more and more like computers. Because of this, you are sometimes required to "reboot" your mobile phone if you start experiencing any problems. If you experience:

  • Bad call quality
  • Bluetooth issues
  • Phone menu is frozen and is no longer responding
  • Won't enter a particular menu item
  • Camera, GPS or Wifi is no longer working
  • Any other software issue or glitch

Most issues can be resolved by turning your phone off and then back on again. If your power button doesn't work, the best way is to take out the battery, wait a few moments and then put it back in - then turn the phone on again.

Obviously if a particular issue is happening regularly, there may be a fault with the phone and it needs to be sent off for repair. Otherwise we recommend our customers to reboot their mobile phones at least once a week to keep things running smoothly.

Turning your phone off and on clears all the memory in your phone and restarts the operating system software your phone uses to control everything... much like how rebooting your computer fixes a majority of problems.
